Balloon Measurement

December-2004

Balloon flights were made for measuring atmospheric temperature, relative humidity, pressure and ozone vertical profiles, by Physical Research Laboratory, Department of Space, Ahemdabad, during 1-30 December 2004 as a part of Land Campaign-II. Balloon measurements will help to understand the vertical distributions of atmospheric ozone (up to 30 km) and water vapour in the lower atmosphere and impacts of meteorological conditions on atmospheric ozone vertical distribution. These balloon flight were made twice in a week from IIT Kanpur campus and attain ceiling height of about 32 km during 1-30 December 2004. Additionally, these balloon also carries a GPS, which gives coordinates of the balloon trajectory. This information can be used to extract wind speed and direction of balloon.
